About Us

The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) is committed to providing all Bangladeshi citizens free TB diagnosis and treatment services. TB diagnosis and treatment services to all Bangladeshi citizens. It strives to make services accessible to all Bangladeshis regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or race.
Under the Mycobacterial Disease Control (MBDC) Unit of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the National Tuberculosis Control Program (NTP) aims to eradicate tuberculosis in Bangladesh.
To date, NTP policies and strategies have been informed by international standards developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), such as the directly observed treatment, short course (DOTS) strategy, which was launched in 1993, and the Stop TB Strategy, which formed the basis of the Global Plan to Stop TB 2006–2015. In May 2014, the Sixty-seventh World Health Assembly approved new multisectoral strategic approaches and new international targets for the post-2015 period, resulting in the formulation of WHO's End TB Strategy in 2015. This strategy proposes new, ambitious, yet achievable global goals for 2035. These include achieving a 95% reduction in tuberculosis-related deaths compared to 2015 and a 90% reduction in the incidence rate of tuberculosis from the projected 225 cases/100,000 in 2015 to 10 cases/100,000 or less by 2035.
NTP is in charge of policy, planning, management, coordination, training, supply, supervision, monitoring, and implementation of TB services at the central level. NTP collaborates with fifty national and international health and development organizations to implement the End TB Strategy. At the TB-UNHLM, the GoB committed to adopting high-level coordination and review mechanisms for coordination and review in order to accelerate progress toward TB eradication.
There are a total of six TB reference laboratories that fall under the watchful eye of the government as well as the NTP. These laboratories include both national and regional facilities. The reporting method for tuberculosis laboratories of all types, such as microscopy, Truenat, Gene Xpert, culture, DST, and LPA, among others, is still entirely manual. The reporting system at the laboratory is being digitized with the help of this LIMS system. The laboratories will be subject to centralized monitoring, making data analysis much simpler.
Finally, we would like to thank the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its continued leadership and guidance in the NTP's efforts to eradicate TB in Bangladesh by 2035. Furthermore, DGHS has always supported the expansion of its technical direction. We appreciate the collaborators, including USAID, The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, NTP's sub-recipients, and other stakeholders.
